Talking with Your Teenager About: vaping, e-cigarettes & cannabis
Thursday, September 19, 6:00pm on the Notre Dame campus

Cannabis, e-cigarettes, vaping, and juuling are some of the most widely used and misunderstood drugs when it comes to adolescents.  Join Dr. Danielle Ramo, clinical psychologist, Director of Research at Hopelab, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, for a data-based presentation on teen vaping, e-cigarette, and cannabis use and how to start the conversation with your child. Dr. Ramo will review current trends in use and how recent policies (e.g., cannabis legalization, e-cigarette regulations) have affected teen use. She will also share evidence on the effect of substance use on the teen brain and behavior, and share unique aspects of teen vaping compared to adult use. Finally, Dr. Ramo will put forth some realistic and innovative strategies for dealing with teen substance use in an increasingly complicated social and political climate. Dr. Ramo's research has focused on developing digital interventions to address teen substance use. She regularly speaks to teens, parents, and school administrators throughout the Bay Area about adolescent substance use.

Parent Education Book Club: Under Pressure, Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls

To address the rise in adolescent anxiety, we are trying something new - a Notre Dame counseling department led book club on this topic featuring Dr. Lisa Damour's book Under Pressure, Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. This book club-style workshop will take place in four sessions in the fall and winter of 2019. You can sign up for as many of the individual series sessions as you would like.
