Junior Big Sisters Help Freshmen Find Their Identity

Junior Big Sisters Help Freshmen Find Their Identity

One of the time-honored traditions at Notre Dame is the choosing of a class mascot and class colors by the newest members on campus, the freshman class. Notre Dame’s annual Freshman Sleepover is a wonderful part of that tradition. Every year in early October, the freshman class gathers together and celebrates their new sisterhood with one big slumber party in the gym with their junior big sisters leading the activities. The freshmen get the chance to pick their new class colors and mascot by splitting into groups, coming up with suggestions, and then voting. Each group models their top choice mascot in a crazy toilet paper fashion show. This year 162 of the 167 freshmen in the class, along with 30 of their junior big sisters in the overnight fun. We are pleased to welcome the Class of 2021 Red & Teal Tigers!
