Stingrays Celebrate Senior Sunrise

Students in Senior Sunrise 26 frame

On Friday, September 26, seniors gathered in Pardini around 6:30 a.m. to watch the sunrise, a tradition that marks the start of senior year. Students came in their pajamas and brought their childhood stuffed animals to school with them to celebrate a passage from their childhood into their last year of high school. This 12th grade event gives students time to reflect on the last three years of their high school experience, and simultaneously talk about future plans for their last year, making Senior Sunrise such a special occasion at ND!

While the event was quite early in the morning, the seniors didn’t forget their smiles at home. Many students took photos with their senior crowns and signs that read, “don’t forget to smile, you're a senior” and “Senior Sunrise.” The event was potluck style, of course, and seniors were able to indulge in a snack while talking amongst their fellow Stingrays and enjoying the view.

As we all embark on our next chapter, Senior Sunrise marks a milestone for the class of 2026. Senior Sunrise isn’t just about watching the sun literally rise, it’s about taking a moment to appreciate the people around us, not only our classmates, but the many teachers, counselors, and mentors that have gotten us to where we are today. There’s something special about being all together knowing that we all journeyed the last few years together and are so close to the finish line. This tradition is a senior favorite among many schools, and one that will definitely stay for a very long time!
