American author Richelle E. Goodrich once said, “Perseverance is the act of true champions.” This remark most definitely applies to Notre Dame’s varsity volleyball team. For the 2023 season, they qualified for the Central Coast Section (CCS). CCS is one of the ten regions in the California Interscholastic Federation, an organization that provides athletic competition in a variety of sports for more than 1,500 high schools in California. To qualify, an athlete or a team of athletes must be the best of the best.

The varsity players snatched the victory on Oct. 28 in a game against Monterey High School, scoring 25-21 in the fourth set. This win allowed them to advance to the quarter finals! On Oct. 31, the team pushed to the end while playing Santa Cruz High School, scoring 10-15 in the fifth set.

Though the team was not able to snag the CCS Open Division title, there is still much to be proud of. Emma ‘25, a defensive specialist, appreciates how the varsity team was able to build a relationship that followed them outside of the court. Maya ‘25, an outside hitter, fondly recalls how supportive her teammates were, regardless of wins or losses.

Notre Dame is incredibly proud of their varsity volleyball team. Their hard work and determination makes them true champions. Go Regents!
