Notre Dame Celebrates the Lunar New Year

Last Friday, Notre Dame High School’s AAPI Coalition collaborated with other cultural clubs to organize a school-wide celebration of the Lunar New Year during lunch. Students and faculty enjoyed dance performances by the Vietnamese Student Association, who performed a traditional fan dance, and the Filipino Student Association, who performed Tinikling. There was a variety of snacks, candies, and drinks for everyone to try, such as White Rabbit candy, milk tea, calamansi juice and tteok. Students also played traditional games including Bầu cua tôm cá, a Vietnamese gambling game often played during Tết (Vietnamese New Year).

“It was so much fun! I felt like I was connecting to my cultural heritage at school and I really enjoyed sharing traditions with my classmates,” said Emma Chen ‘23, one of the students who organized the event.” We look forward to more cultural celebrations on ND’s campus!
