Diversi-TEA Celebrates AAPI Culture

Diversi-TEA Celebrates AAPI Culture
By Anna Yang '23

Yesterday, the AAPI Coalition held their 2nd annual drink-tasting event, Diversi-TEA! AAPI Coalition’s mission statement is to provide a safe space for Asian American and Pacific Islander students, as well as relevant education for the larger ND community. Diversi-TEA is one of the many events that AAPI Coalition hosts to celebrate cultural diversity. The event was held after school between JB Hall and Donnelly, and featured drinks from a variety of cultures. In partnership with ND’s cultural clubs, including South Asian Student Association and Muslim Student Association, a wide variety of drinks were offered, including chè thái, badam milk, Wong Lo Kat, Rooh Afza, Korean pear drink and calamansi juice. More than 130 students RSVP’d for the event, demonstrating the ND community’s strong celebration of AAPI culture!

Olivia Ma '24, one of the event organizers, was grateful for the support and excitement from participants. “My favorite part was when I introduced the cultural drink that I brought and the history behind it to everyone,” she said. “Everyone was super interested in the cultural significance of Wong Lo Kat, and I was glad to be able to share this part of my identity with them.”

Students are looking forward to more events that the AAPI Coalition will be hosting this year!
