Notre Dame Hosts Parliamentary Debate Tournament

Speaking from behind the podium

Notre Dame recently hosted its first parliamentary debate tournament of the school year, with teams coming from 17 schools around the Bay Area. In total, 67 teams (13 novice and 54 varsity teams), participated in this event. The event was organized by Mariel Cruz, Notre Dame's director of speech and debate and Pearlin Liu '18 and run by more than 20 Notre Dame student volunteers.

In parliamentary debate, each round involves a new topic that each team only has 20 minutes to prepare for. After each round, parent or teacher volunteer judges determine which team had the best argument, and give the students a score for their performance in that round. Tournament results are available.
