Griffins Recognized for Achievements

Notre Dame's Class of 2020 is already following in the footsteps of their viper sisters with a long list of awards and honors. The Scholarship Committee recently awarded Junior Book Awards and Medals to some very deserving young women.

  • The Bausch and Lomb Award is given by the University of Rochester to the junior who has high achievement and rigor in science classes and a high PSAT Math and/or SAT Math scores. This year, the award will be given to Shreya Garg
  • The Brandeis University book award is presented for a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice or volunteer work. This year, the award is given to Anika Asthana.
  • The Brown Book Award is given to that junior who demonstrates overall academic achievement. This year it is awarded to Isha Yeleswarapu.
  • The Bryn Mawr Book Award is for the outstanding young woman who demonstrates “an intense intellectual commitment, a purposeful vision of life, and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the world. This award is given to Srija Ponna.
  • The Harvard Book Award is given to a junior who demonstrates academic excellence. This year, this award is given to Neha Jain.
  • The Mt. Holyoke Book Award is awarded to a member of the junior class who has produced an excellent academic record and who has exhibited qualities of leadership and service to the school community. This award is given to Anvi Aggrawal.
  • The George Washington University Book Award recognizes high school juniors who embody the GW drive and spirit, specifically with their academic excellence, leadership outside of the classroom, diversity of thought and ability to put knowledge into action. This award is given to Hana Agueros
  • Santa Clara University Book Award is for a junior who is intellectually talented and shows a commitment to service. This prize is awarded to Fiona Reyes.
  • St. Michael’s College is awarded to a junior who is a member of the National Honor Society and who demonstrates a sincere and sustained commitment to community service activities as well as taken on a leadership role within their community service endeavors. This year’s award winner is Ashley Boomer.
  • The Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award from the University of Rochester is given to that junior who demonstrates a commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues; who shows leadership and dedication to community action; and who has strong grades and rigorous courses taken in the humanities and social sciences. This year, the award will be given to Sharanya Suresh.
  • The George Eastman Young Leaders Award is given by the University of Rochester to that junior who has strong leadership experience at school and in the community; who has high grades and challenging courses; and who has extensive involvement in extracurricular activities. This year, the award will be given to Sophie Holohan.
  • The Rensselaer Medal is - given to that junior who demonstrates potential for success in a challenging academic setting; who excels in advanced math and science classes; who exhibits significant involvement in extracurricular activities. In addition, if this student is accepted and enrolls at Rensselaer for college, a $25,000 per year scholarship is guaranteed for 4 years. This year, the Rensselaer Medal goes to Yashna Bansal.
  • The Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology is given by the University of Rochester to that junior who shows a strong interest in innovation and/or information technology; who leads other students to new approaches to old problems; and who maximizes the use of internal communication tools on the web. This year, the award will be given to Kamryn Richardson.
  • The University of Chicago Book Award is awarded to a member of the junior class who is among the strongest in her class and demonstrates intellectual engagement in and out of the classroom. These are the students that faculty would label “scholars” with a “lively mind.” This year the award is given to Katelyn Yu.
  • The University of Pennsylvania Book Award is given to a high school junior who best exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of Benjamin Franklin, founder of the University of Pennsylvania: scholar, innovator, and one who serves the community. This award is given to Shruti Sridhar.
  • The University of Portland Book Award is awarded to a high school junior who exemplifies concern, interest, and inclination in the subject of the environment showing strong talents in the field of science and environmental issues. This award is given to Kaitlyn Kumar.
  • The Wellesley College Award is given to a junior who exemplifies academic excellence and leadership in her school and community. This year, the award goes to Reem Suleiman.
  • The Williams College Award is for a junior who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school. This year, the award is given to Ria Jain.
