Notre Dame Celebrates Freshman Family Liturgy

Notre Dame Celebrates Freshman Family Liturgy

The Class of 2022 gathered with parents, faculty, and staff for the annual Freshman Family Liturgy this week. This teaching mass offers an introduction to Catholic liturgy and includes connections to prayer practices from the many faiths represented in our diverse community. Prepared by the Peer Ministry Leadership Team of campus ministry, students from several groups participated in liturgical ministries. The peer ministers thank our campus ministry homeroom representatives, class council, music ministers, religious studies teachers and mentors for their liturgical leadership!

Fr. Joseph Benedict, pastor of the Cathedral Basilica of St Joseph, presided for the liturgy. In his homily, he spoke about the courage of Mary and Martha, two sisters who were friends of Jesus. They boldly stepped forward to talk and learn with Jesus in a time when that was not the norm for women. Their courage to become spiritual seekers was a sign of God's goodness working through them and an invitation to us to become bold women of impact in the tradition of Notre Dame.

Families of all faiths are welcome at future Notre Dame liturgies throughout the school year, especially those at the Cathedral. Questions about those opportunities can be directed to campus ministry.
