Bringing Diverse Voices to Leadership

Bringing Diverse Voices to Leadership

As a new project to bring diverse voices in leadership, Tanisha Fitzgerald, director of student leadership, and the Facing History Student Leadership Group are spearheading the creation and development of a Notre Dame Diversity Council. The Diversity Council is a place where all the cultural clubs and leadership groups on campus can come together to talk about various intersectional issues and communicate changes they would like to see in the school.

In the past, the council has hosted various speakers to talk about different topics, especially pertaining to the month that’s being celebrated, like Heritage Month or Black History Month. They’ve also hosted safe and inclusive spaces for students to learn more about the diverse people that are being celebrated.

Although the idea for Diversity Council was introduced a couple years ago by ND alums, the prospect of having the administration involved makes it much more official and recognized by the school. “This year, Ms. Fitz has been involved so I'm really excited to see what she does, and how we can support it,” says Anya Mehta ‘22
