Sr. Kathryn Keenan

Sister of Notre Dame de Namur
ND Board Member Term: July 2025 – June 2028

Sister Kathryn knew from childhood that she wanted to teach. Inspired by the Sisters at Notre Dame High School in Belmont, she studied Spanish at UC Santa Barbara and later earned a bilingual teaching credential after working with Hmong and Mexican-American children. She joined the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and spent nearly twenty years teaching kindergarten at Mission Dolores School in San Francisco, where her Spanish proved invaluable. She also served with Catholic Charities, on the Province Leadership Team, and as Vice Principal and Principal of Notre Dame Elementary. Today, she continues to serve through translation work for the congregation.

Sister Kathryn’s faith has deepened through international experiences in Belgium, Peru, Nigeria, and El Salvador, and she describes her vows as giving her “rootedness.” She treasures her large multigenerational family and enjoys baking, walking, and photography.
