Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a team activity for students who want to learn about the law, improve their public speaking, and develop strong critical-thinking and debate skills. It's a fun, exciting, and challenging experience where students build strong friendships and lasting connections across grade levels. Many students look back on Mock Trial as one of their most meaningful and memorable experiences in high school.

Students learn how a real trial works, including evidence, courtroom procedures, legal ethics, and trial techniques. Students take on roles such as attorneys, witnesses, understudies, and legal assistants. The team prepares a case and competes against other high schools in Santa Clara County in a competition sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation. The competition takes place in a real courtroom and is judged by practicing judges and attorneys.

Mock Trial meets about twice a week beginning in August/September.  Meetings on campus are on Fridays from 4-6pm in C304. Being part of the team requires commitment, teamwork, preparation, and participation from everyone. By the end of the program, students will have a better understanding of the legal system and how trials work, while developing skills in analysis, critical thinking, debate, teamwork, and public speaking.
