After high school, Kathleen O’Shea ’65 Muller earned a BS in political science and a secondary teaching credential from Santa Clara University. Her career in the field of non-profit management included positions as executive director of the San Jose Historical Museum Association and the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, where she was responsible for board development, fundraising, programs, and communications/public relations.  She is currently self-employed as a grant writer for non-profit agencies -- including Peninsula College Fund, Positive Coaching Alliance, and the California Province of the Society of Jesus.

 

Elsewhere in the community, Kathleen served on the board of directors of the Catholic Community Foundation of Santa Clara County from 2012-2017 and remains a member of the Grants Committee. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of San Jose. She served on the Rotary Club Board of Directors from 2011-14 and chaired the concept and design committee for the Rotary PlayGarden. She is member emeritus and a former chair of the Board of Fellows at Santa Clara University and was named a sustainer of the year by the Junior League of San Jose in 2015.

 

Kathleen was one of four girls in her family to attend Notre Dame. Her sisters are Sister Nancy O’Shea, SND ’61, Mary O’Shea ’66 Friedrich and Eileen O’Shea ’69 Beamer. She and her husband, Peter, are the parents of three sons. They also have three daughters-in-law and five grandchildren. Two granddaughters, Tess Muller (‘19) and Adeline Muller (’21) currently attend Notre Dame. Peter and Kathleen live in the Willow Glen area of San Jose.
