Celeste Martin ‘72 Melehan, after graduating from Notre Dame, earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a master’s degree in Public Health.

She served in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps where she began her career in volunteerism. Community volunteer management has been both her career choice and her avocation. Montalvo Arts Center, the Volunteer Exchange of Santa Clara County and Los Gatos History Museum are non-profits she worked for over a 20+ year career.  Having served as fashion show chair for both Bellarmine College Prep as well as Presentation High School, her skill set includes event planning and community collaboration. In addition, she served on the boards of both schools, and is immediate past president of the Los Gatos History Club. She also served on the Keep San Jose Beautiful Commission and is a sustainer in the Junior League of San Jose.

Celeste has been married to Joseph Melehan for 38 years. Their family includes a son, Chris, and his wife, Katherine, and a daughter, Julia, and her husband Robbie.  They have two granddaughters.

Her retirement in 2009 has allowed her to continue to serve the community in a volunteer capacity. Celeste plans to continue to support Notre Dame as it prepares students to be productive local and global citizens.
