Notre Dame's Nikki Maruya Selected as South Bay Teen Idol Semi Finalist

Teens from all over the Bay Area descended on the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center on January 12 in the hopes of being crowned the South Bay’s next Teen Idol. Among only twenty chosen to move to semi-finalist status was Notre Dame junior Nikki Maruya. more

Speech & Debate Shines at MLK Invitational

Twelve talented Notre Dame speech and debate students participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational, held at James Logan High School last weekend.  While most students were enjoying a well-deserved break between semesters, these young ladies were taking the floor with passion and enthusiasm.  more

"Cherish the Beauty" by Senior Sarah Shaffer Chosen as CreaTV Finalist

As a freshman, Sarah Shaffer '14 already knew what she wanted to do for her senior service project.  Her goal was ambitious, as are most of those our Notre Dame students aspire to achieve.  Her hard work and desire to create movies that will celebrate life, with all of its challenges, has been recognized by our Notre Dame community as she has worked to produce videos used for multiple events.  Recently her work garnered the attention and recognition of CreaTV, who selected her video as a finalist for their CreaTiVe Awards.   more

Notre Dame Athletic Director Honored with Norm Mackenzie Award

Notre Dame’s athletic
director, Denise Krogen,
was recently selected by the California State Athletic Directors Association to receive this year’s Norm Mackenzie Award which is presented to "rookie" athletic directors who display superior leadership skills and have been in their current role for less than four years. more

The Notre Dame Choir, under the direction of Shelene Huey-Booker, were recently invited to perform at Mayor Chuck Reed’s 5th annual Faith Leaders Appreciation Breakfast, earning enthusiastic applause and praise from the more than 100 attendees. more

Cross Country Earns CCS Honors

Notre Dame's Cross Country Team returned to Crystal Springs High School on Saturday, November 16th for Central Coast Section Finals (CCS). Under the leadership of head coach Krystal Buck and assistant coach Cottrell Hill, the girls earned a solid third place in the CCS division finals. more

Volleyball Ends Season on a High Note

Notre Dame's Varsity Volleyball Team finished the season in a tie for first place.  The junior varsity team also ended the season on top, securing first place in their division.  more

Notre Dame Forensics Competes in First Major Tournament

Notre Dame’s speech and debate team competed in their first major league tournament of the year last weekend at Milpitas High School, along with more than 600 other competitors. When the final words had been flung and the dust settled, Meredith Duflock, the ONLY girl in the event, had secured second place honors in Domestic Extemporaneous.  Anisha Chemmachel also finished well, earning fifth place honors, out of more than 100 competitors, in Improptu. more

Caitlin Torres Awarded Rene Lepiane Scholarship

Each year the Rene Lepiane Leadership Award is presented to an incoming freshman student who exemplifies the qualities of a good leader.  The recipient is chosen, in part, based on her written essay.  Caitlin Torres, this year’s recipient, shared her ideas of what makes a good leader.  “From my experience, I believe a leader should be strong and stable academically and socially,” wrote Caitlin.  “Also, a good leader needs to show determination, good time management, and a complete commitment to their job,” adding that good leaders should never “limit themselves in what they can do.”  more

National Honor Society Installation

On April 20, 2010, the National Honor Society (NHS) recognized thirty-one Notre Dame students who exemplify academic achievement and other outstanding characteristics. NHS members uphold and promote the four pillars of Scholarship, Character, Service, and Leadership. Standards for selection are high and granted to those who demonstrate these qualities not only in school activities, but also throughout the community. Membership is both an honor and a commitment. Todd Madigan from Sacred Heart Community Service presented the Notre Dame Community the Dorothy Day Award for Social Justice. The award is a recognition that the recipient has demonstrated the desire expressed by Dorothy Day when she declared, “What we would like to do is change the world—make it a little simpler for people to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves as God intended.” more
