What does a fictional hero’s journey mean? Or a shared conversation between characters? Or a walk in the rain? The study of language and literature is a glass on the world, a view of the human condition. Students can unlock hidden truths, discover a world where a road leads to a quest, listen to a conversation that resonates within their own souls, find the healing qualities in a walk in the rain. They can follow an unexpected twist on a character, explore the depths of symbol and metaphor, experience the eloquence of language, and as always plumb below the surface of prose, poetry and drama. In addition to exploring literature, students discern the nuances of communication through writing and rhetoric.
