On May 4th we are very fortunate to have the YWCA Silicon Valley staff facilitate prevention education for the 9th grade students on the issue of personal violence. Presentations will be held during the students’ mentoring and collaboration periods. Last year, our current sophomores, juniors and seniors received the same information from the YWCA. We will encourage follow-up discussions about the topic of sexual violence for these grade levels during various mentoring periods in May. Sexual violence is a serious community issue with staggering statistics demonstrating the adverse impact on adolescents. Providing prevention education empowers students with salient and developmentally age-appropriate information about these issues and how we can work toward ending a culture of sexual and interpersonal violence.
For more information on how to talk to teens about sexual violence please visit Break the Cycle.
