And They Are Off and Running!

While most of us were still enjoying our vacation, fall sports athletes were busy starting to practice over the summer. Notre Dame’s cross country team has been training since early August for their season, which officially starts this Saturday with the Earlybird Invitational at Toro Park in Salinas.

The team has been working hard under the leadership of coaches Krystal Buck and Dana Underwood and captains Jaclyn Woodward, Kaela Crowley, Quinn Cabral and Emelia Hamilton (all ’14). They practice on either the Guadalupe Creek Trail near Notre Dame or at Ranch San Antonio Park in Los Altos. The girls had a time trial event last Friday. Since then, they have already improved their times and are eagerly anticipating the new season. Sophomore Geraldine Eleazar said, “I’m very excited for the season. I’m looking forward to improving my times this year. Hopefully I’ll be able to get below 7-minute miles!”

On Friday the 14^th, the team is leaving for a race in Lake Tahoe. They’ll compete Friday afternoon and spend a day bonding afterwards. “I’m excited to go because I’ve heard a lot about it and it seems like a great team building activity,” exclaimed Emily Cox (’15). Captain Emelia Hamilton added, “We just had our Panda Cup time trial, and it was really great to see the improvement from the beginning of the season. I think the team has definitely grown closer and bonded as well.”
