Fine Arts

Along with all the fine arts classes available at Notre Dame, students have many other opportunities to express their creative talents.  Some of these outside the classroom activities include:

Day of the Dead Altar

Every year students, faculty and staff build a Notre Dame community altar with contributions coming from all over campus. The 12 ft. tall altar includes approximately 100 ceramic skulls and picture frames (Intro to Ceramics classes), an 8 ft. Virgin of Guadalupe mural backdrop (Advance 2D Art, 2006), beautiful cloths, pan de muerto, tissue crosses (Mrs. Emilia Bobst), and paper flowers (Language classes). Artwork

Downtown Doors

Walk downtown and you will see utility doors displaying larger-than-life artwork by Notre Dame students. Photos on Doors

Pit Firing

Ceramics students travel to The Spring Valley Anagama facility in the hills of Milpitas for Notre Dame's yearly pit fire experience. This fun experience gives students a chance to reflect on ancient pottery traditions while pursuing the same craft skill with a modern twist. Pit firing is an ancient technique, in fact the oldest technique of heating clay.  Photos & Artwork

Woman's Place Project

Since 1994, each member of Notre Dame’s freshman class has selected a “Woman of Impact” to research and created a dinner place setting (plate, utensils, glass, napkin, placemat, frame, flower vase and toast) in her honor. Artwork
