From Knitting and Crocheting Scarves
to Making Wooden Toys,
the Notre Elves have been Busy

The students at Notre Dame San Jose High School have been very busy elves this holiday season. From knitting and crocheting scarves to making wooden toys, the Notre Dame workshop has been a buzz.

Over thirty students under the Senior Elf guidance of Ms. Catherine Sharer, Mrs. Gail Tifft, Mrs. Emilia Peņa Bobst, Ms. Katherine Lipps and Mrs. Patti Kussman have knitted or crocheted over 150 scarves for the young people at the Bill Wilson Center and other non-profit organizations. Sparky Harlan, Executive Director of the Bill Wilson Center, thanked all the students and teachers for their fifth year of donating the colorful hand-knitted warm scarves. "Every year the scarves bring smiles to faces of the over one hundred kids who receive them, says Harlan."

Making scarves is a wonderful project according to freshman Lucinda Amador. "I can make something for someone that will help them stay warm."

The very brave Senior Elf, Mr. Chris Downer, has been working with a dozen students making wooden toys for deserving children. "Teaching the students how to use power tools has really been fun," says Downer. Several of the students commented how at first they were afraid of the power tools but that now they are very confident and are even thinking of asking Mr. Downer if they can make something larger - a life size boat perhaps?
