Notre Dame Sets Records at Speech & Debate
State Championships
A record four students spent three days at the California Speech & Debate State Championships and raised the bar for future Notre Dame Speech & Debate teams.
  • Laura Pedersen (‘08) competed in Thematic Interpretation – first Notre Dame student to attend for 4 consecutive years!
  • Katie Johnson (‘11) also competed in Thematic Interpretation – quite an accomplishment for a freshwoman!
  • Anila Khan (‘08) and Jessica Jin (‘10) competed in Duo Interpretation – first Notre Dame duo team to attend State!
  • Coach Ellen Donlin, received “Rookie Coach of the Year Award.”
  • Notre Dame took 9th place in League Sweepstakes from our local Coast Forensics League.

Zombie Prom—Notre Dame's Spring Musical
Come see Zombie Prom at Notre Dame's Julie Billiart Hall, April 17th through 20th. Zombie Prom is a twisted send-up of 1950's horror movies and pop songs. At Enrico Fermi High School, a little thing like death doesn't stand in the way of true love. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door or from a cast member.

Sarah Aili (Weinstein), Class of 2001, stars in Broadway By The Bay Production
Notre Dame alumna Sarah Aili-her stage name- class of 2001, will be playing the role of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, for the Broadway By The Bay Theatre, directed by George Maguire. Sarah's versatility spans acting, singing, theatre and jazz. "Sarah Aili, who plays Seymour’s co-worker Audrey, first saw the musical when she was in in middle school. She says, “What most intrigued me was that Audrey appears as an airhead without much depth in the beginning, but later grows to being a full-rounded, deep character who believes in her dreams.”

ND Student Recognized as One of the Best Soccer Players in the Bay Area
Congratulations to sophomore Kristen Lam, Varsity Soccer, for her Honorable Mention selection to the All Mercury News High Soccer Team. Kristen was also voted 1st Team All West Bay Athletic League after having a dominating season and becoming one of the best offensive players in the league. Way to go Kristen!!!" season stats

Karen Ortiz in the News
ABC Channel 7 News aired a special segment on Education that featured Notre Dame's very own Karen Ortiz. Karen is the proud recipient of Enrique Flores's East Side Hero Scholarship. Karen is one of only eight Bay Area Latino high school students currently being awarded this scholarship. ABC7 News

Notre Dame Raises $1,326.48 for Greg Mortensen's Central Asia Institute
The freshman class reports a very successful "Pennies for Peace" fundraising drive for the Central Asia Institute. The $1,326.48 raised will go to providing community-based education and literacy programs, especially for girls, in remote mountain regions of Central Asia. Miss Delaney's homeroom came out on top, bringing in a total of $315.99. read more

Four Notre Dame students, Sejal Hathi, 16, Angelica Teng, 17, Hanna Kim, 17, and Sandal Khandoker, 17, create a non-profit organization, Girls Helping Girls, with a mission to empower girls worldwide to create and lead social change through education, leadership training, community projects and cultural awareness. Tijuana Service Immersion Trip Receives Overwhelming Support
This year's Tijuana Service Immersion Trip is ready to roll thanks to the many students, family, faculty and friends who attended the Solidarity Dinner on February 24 and made donations online. The money raised will be used to purchase the building materials so that the students will have all the necessary supplies to build two houses for the working poor families in Tijuana during Spring Break. Please read the reflections students shared regarding their experience building houses in Tijuana last year.

2008 FIRST Robotics Competition
ND Robotics Team 1967 will be competing in the Silicon Valley Regional of the FIRST Robotics Competition on March 13-15. The teams are given a standard "kit of parts" with six weeks to construct a robot that can compete in a game designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers and a committee of engineers and other professionals. This year's game is called FIRST Overdrive. The competition will be held at San Jose State University's Event Center. schedule|map

Refugee Simulation
Stop Genocide Now's "Camp Darfur" will be on the Bellarmine campus next Thursday & Friday, March 13-14. The "camp" will include 5 refugee tents near the quad, representing genocide in Darfur, Cambodia, Armenia, Rwanda, and the Holocaust. map

Dr. Farid Senzai (Political Science Department) and Dr. Philip Boo Riley (Religious Studies Department) from Santa Clara University will join us and share perspective on politics and religion in the world of Three Cups of Tea. Dr. Senzai's current research explores U.S. democracy promotion in the Middle East, U.S. relations with the Muslim world and a national study of Muslims in America. Valentine's Day Pajamas for Kids Drive
Notre Dame students, along with Ms. Gonzaga, participate in collecting, sorting and counting pajama donations in front of The Fairmont in San Jose on Valentine's Day morning. The pajama drive for homeless children is hosted by the Northern California Chapter of the national Pajama Program.

Blood Drive a Success
The Stanford Blood Center would like to thank the 80 Notre Dame Students, Parents, Employees and Alumnae who so generously donated blood on January 28th. The Interact Club reports that this was the best winter drive ND has ever had. Eighty people came to the gym to give blood, and 31 were first time donors. Great job, ND! The next blood drive will be on April 28, 2008.

Locks of Love - Huge Success!
Sixty-two students and another eleven teachers, parents and friends each donated a minimum of 7 inches of hair at the third annual Notre Dame San Jose cut-a-thon for "Locks of Love." A dozen professional stylists from salons in Downtown San Jose and Los Gatos arrived early and cut hair nonstop throughout the entire school day. The hair valued at over $200,000 will be donated to "Locks of Love", a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to children suffering from long term medical illnesses that result in hair loss.  press release | KGO podcast

Powder Puff Football Classic is a Win
for the Central Asia Institute

3rd Annual Charity Powder Puff Football classic goes down as a win for the Senior Tigers! Although their win was a great accomplishment, the big winners are the students who benefit from Greg Mortensen's effort through his non-profit agency Central Asia Institute. The Senior Class Council will be presenting a check for $2,850.00 at an assembly on Friday, November 16, 2007 to Mr. Mortensen to support his work. |highlights
